Advantage of Portable Vacuum Cleaners

Every home that has more than just one person in it eventually comes to one similar conclusion. You’ll get there the day you realize that after the dog knocked over their food bowl, or the kids dumped the cat liter on the floor, that lugging out your giant cleaning machine just to pick up little messes isn’t going to work anymore.

A portable vacuum can be a shining beacon at this time-it is much easier to store, to carry around and it doesn’t feel like a chore within itself just getting it out of it’s storage space and setting it up just to turn it on for five seconds. In a world with multiple people, pets and kids running around under one roof, it’s a very good idea to get your hands on one sooner rather than later.

Yet picking the right one can be difficult. There are so many choices! Which brand is best? Cordless or corded? How heavy is too heavy? Which one is truly the number one portable vacuum available?

Since I run a household similar to the one described above (husband, dogs, cat and kids!), I have had my fair share of experience with these nifty appliances. Using my own trail and error, below are vacuums that are definitely worth their price tag:

  1. Shark Cordless Floor & Carpet Sweeper V2950 – If you find yourself with mostly hardwood or vinyl flooring, this portable cleaner is the right fit for you. It stands like a normal unit (perfect for those who have back issues), but is much lighter, and there is no cord-it runs off of a rechargeable battery! Shark is also a pretty decent brand to look for, usually available at Target or Wal Mart.
  2. Eureka EasyClean Hand Vac 71B – Eureka is a well-known and trusted brand, and being in business for over 100 years has given some weight to its reputation. The 71B is an older model, but is a fantastic option for those of you looking for a handheld option. It has a 23-foot cord, and the size of it is perfect for stairs (one of my least favorite places to clean!). Usually found for $40, this model is quite the steal!
  3. Black & decker Orb Hand Vac – Not only does this model have a very unique shape to it (it almost looks like a ball!), it is surprisingly lightweight at a little over 2  pounds and have quite a bit of power behind it. Being cordless, you aren’t limited as to where you can clean (so perfect for a quick brush over in the car or if something spilled in the cabinets) and the canister just pops out for easy emptying and cleaning. Also priced at $40, this option seems to have all the perks!
  4. Dyson DC34 Handheld Vacuum Cleaner – If you are at all familiar with Dyson, you know it to be one of the more expensive brands. While there are plenty of us who shy away from just the price, there is a reason that these models are still being stocked. Looking more like a power tool, this option also weighs less than 3 pounds but definitely has a lot more power than its counterparts. And while the initial price is a little hard to get over ($199), Dyson not only offers up a warranty, but if you order through Target you can get an additional 2-year warranty in case anything happens to it.

Now that some of the guess work has been taken out of your search, it wont be too difficult for you to figure out which one of the above four options is the best for your household!
